Hitomi Akano vs Chisa Yonezawa Set For March 13th Pancrase CardA second women’s bout has been added to the Pancrase Impressive Tour 2 fight card on March 13th in Osaka, Japan. Former Smackgirl Middleweight Champion Hitomi “Girlfight Monster” Akano will face Chisa Yonezawa. The fight was first noted by Akano’s friend and training partner, Megumi Fujii.

Already officially announced for the card was a 48kg women’s bout between “Happy” Fukuko Hamada and Mamiko Mizoguchi. The fight with Yonezawa will be Akano’s first since a planned matchup against Roxanne Modafferi on December 30th was cancelled at the last minute due to a Modafferi illness.

Akano (16-8-0) is one of the most accomplished female mixed martial artists in Japan. She held the Smackgirl Middleweight Championship at 128 pounds until she was defeated by Takayo Hashi in a September 2007 rematch. An incredible 13 of Akano’s wins have come by way of submission and she has only been finished one time – in a disastrous bout against current Strikeforce champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos – during her six-year career.

Yonezawa (1-3-0) began her career with three tough fights against the likes of Modafferi, Hashi and a larger Mizuho Sato. She took one year away from mixed martial arts before returning last November. Yonezawa managed to choke out Mika “Hari” Harigai late in the third and final round of their battle at Valkyrie 8, but will enter the fight against Akano as a considerable underdog.

Hamada (5-6-0) brings an experience edge into her bout with Mizoguchi (2-4-1) and has faced much tougher competition in her career. Among Hamada’s defeats were a loss against former DEEP champ Satoko Shinashi and two setbacks against reigning Valkyrie Flyweight Champion Yasuko Tamada. Mizoguchi, however, is known for her punching power and both of her victories to date have come by a form of knockout. Hamada has never been knocked out, but a stoppage will likely be Mizoguchi’s best chance at victory in a bout that represents an interesting clash of styles.

Pancrase Impressive Tour 2 takes place on March 13th at Azalea Taisho Hall in Osaka, Japan.
