Moosin: "Sylvia vs Pudzianowski" Live ResultsMoosin USA invaded the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts tonight with an interesting card at Moosin MMA: “Sylvia vs Pudzianowski.” The event was headlined by a super heavyweight bout between former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia and five-time World’s Strongest Man Mariusz “Dominator” Pudzianowski.

Also on the pay-per-view portion of the card, two of the top female fighters in the world collided for the second time when Roxanne Modafferi upset Tara LaRosa. has live play-by-play for the event.


Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia vs Mariusz “Dominator” Pudzianowski

Round 1:
Pudzianowski opened the fight with two leg kicks and clinched. He threw Sylvia to the mat like a ragdoll, but Sylvia quickly got back to his feet. Pudzianowski kept him pinned against the cage, but Sylvia countered with knees to the body. He reversed and drilled Pudzianowski with a right hook. Pudzianowski clinched again and Sylvia landed another knee. He followed with a one-two and more knees as Pudzianowski slowed.

The fighters clinched and Sylvia backed Pudzianowski up to the cage. He landed a right hook and a wobbly Pudzianowski answered with a jab. More knees scored for Sylvia, who was cut on the left side of his face. He kept the pressure on as Pudzianowski circled away. Sylvia threw Pudzianowski to the mat and struck from his guard. Pudzianowski tried for an armbar and Sylvia passed to side-control. He landed punches until the bell. 10-9 Sylvia.

Round 2:
Sylvia jabbed in and landed a body kick and a big knee in round two. He followed with more punches as Pudzianowski clinched. Time was called as referee Herb Dean warned Pudzianowski for grabbing the fance. Pudzianowski fell after a punch from Sylvia, who moved straight to side-control and looked to set up an arm-triangle choke. Sylvia switched to punches and Pudzianowski tapped out.

Winner: Tim Sylvia by Submission (Punches) at 1:43 of round two. He improves to 26-6-0.


Travis “Diesel” Wiuff vs Josh “Barnyard” Barnes

Round 1:
The fighters traded hard punches in an early exchange and Wiuff staggered Barnes with a big left hook. He followed with a barrage of punches and Barnes collapsed into the cage. The referee dove in to rescue Barnes. Quick win for Wiuff.

Winner: Travis Wiuff by TKO (Punches) at 0:34 of round one. He improves to 61-14-0.


Rafael “Sapo” Natal vs Travis “The Serial Killer” Lutter

Round 1:
Lutter threw a big right hand early in the fight that just missed. He backed Natal up with a jab and Natal clipped him with a head kick. Lutter was unfazed, but a follow-up leg kick from Natal appeared to hurt Lutter. He recovered and Natal threw more kicks. Lutter shot in for a takedown and Natal defended with punches and hammerfists to the side of Lutter’s head.

Finally, Natal circled free of the clinch and landed another kick bo the body. Lutter appeared to be tired as Natal picked his shots with kicks. He spun out of a takedown attempt and backed away. An exhausted Lutter plodded forward and was dropped by an uppercut. Natal followed with punches on the ground that briefly knocked Lutter out cold.

Winner: Rafael Natal by KO (Punches) at 4:12 of round one. He improves to 12-2-0.


Mike “The Beast” Campbell vs “The Texas Gunslinger” Yves Edwards

Round 1:
Campbell jabbed forward and threw a leg kick, but was cracked with a counterpunch. He landed a vicious kick and Edwards backed up. Campbell stayed on the offensive, but Edwards fired back with a one-two and a glancing body kick. Two more punches and a stiff leg kick scored for Campbell and he threw another hard kick to the body. Edwards landed a counter left hook, but began to bleed from a cut below his right eye.

The fighters circled and threw single strikes until Edwards pushed forward with a nice combination. Campbell recovered and took Edwards down. Edwards stood and was promptly taken down again. Campbell moved to half-guard and threw short elbows. Edwards scrambled to his feet and was hit with another kick to the liver. Campbell landed a kick to the upper arm and Edwards replied with a flurry. Good round. 10-9 Campbell.

Round 2:
The fighters traded quick punches in the second round and Edwards blasted Campbell with a salvo against the cage. Campbell shot in for a takedown and Edwards took his back. He sunk in both hooks and tried to set up a rear-naked choke. Campbell defended well and spun into Edwards’s guard. He landed hard strikes from the top and both fighters stood up. Edwards stuffed a takedown and suplexed Campbell to the ground.

Edwards took Campbell’s back again and once again tried for a choke. A scramble followed and Campbell got back to his feet. He landed a kick to the body and Edwards replied with a counter hook and a grazing head kick. Campbell landed a leg kick and ate another counterpunch. A big combination scored for Campbell and he jacked the jaw of Edwards, but Edwards took his back. The fighters traded punches in the final seconds. 10-9 Edwards.

Round 3:
Campbell opened the final round with body kicks and a one-two. Edwards drilled him with a counter left hook and a follow-up right. He just missed with a haymaker and Campbell landed a leg kick. Edwards answered with one of his own and was clipped by a right hook behind the ear. Edwards backed Campbell up with punches to the head and body. Both fighters targeted the body and Campbell tried for a takedown.

Edwards reversed and wound up on top, then took Campbell’s back. Campbell quickly scrambled and wound up in Edwards’s guard. The fight returned to the feet and Edwards rushed in with knees and punches. Campbell threw back punches of his own and tried for another takedown. Edwards used an impressive powerbomb-like maneouvre to slam Campbell down and Campbell reversed at the bell. Extremely close fight. 10-9 Edwards by a razor-thin margin.

Winner: Mike Campbell by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 9-2-0.


Roxanne Modafferi vs Tara LaRosa

Round 1:
Modafferi landed leg kicks and short punches early on and LaRosa fired back with a combination. A hard right hand landed for Modafferi and she kept the pressure on. A spinning back fist scored to the body for Modafferi and LaRosa clinched. Modafferi defended well with punches to the body, but LaRosa continued to try for the takedown. Modafferi reversed briefly and stayed on her feet. Two big knees to the body landed for LaRosa.

The fight remained in the clinch against the cage as both fighters looked to establish control. Each one looked for a takedown and LaRosa finally took Modafferi to the mat. She looked to move to mount, but Modafferi defended and stood up. A glancing right hand sent Modafferi off-balance, but she recovered and floored LaRosa with punches. LaRosa held on as Modafferi moved to partial mount and threw more punches until the bell. 10-9 Modafferi.

Round 2:
Both fighters landed hard punches to begin the second round and Modafferi scored a takedown against the cage. She threw short punches from the top until LaRosa scrambled back to her feet. Modafferi threw a high kick that missed, but connected with a front kick to the body. Jabs landed for both and Modafferi landed a counter one-two.

Modafferi remained the aggressor and connected with a solid right hand, then sidestepped a wild left hook from LaRosa. A big punch-kick combination backed LaRosa up to the cage and Modafferi followed with a left hook. LaRosa answered with a flurry, but Modafferi held strong. More big punches landed for both fighters and LaRosa scored a takedown. Very, very close round. LaRosa steals it 10-9 in the final minute.

Round 3:
Modafferi opened the final round with a spinning backfist that missed, but kept the pressure on with punches. LaRosa dropped her with a counter one-two and dove into Modafferi’s guard. Modafferi locked on a triangle choke from the bottom and LaRosa tried to fight out with hammerfists. LaRosa could not escape and Modafferi kept pressure on with the choke. Modafferi spun into an armbar, but LaRosa used the opportunity to escape and tried to move to mount.

Modafferi used the cage to work back to her feet and landed knees in the clinch. LaRosa scored a hip toss takedown and secured a headlock. Modafferi escaped out the back and landed elbows to the side of LaRosa’s head. The fighters stood and Modafferi threw short punches and elbows to the body. She partially took LaRosa down before the bell. Another close round. 10-9 Modafferi. Amazing fight.

Winner: Roxanne Modafferi by Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. She improves to 15-5-0.


Lukasz “Juras” Jurkowski vs Ho Jin Kim

Round 1:
The fighters clinched early in the opening round and Kim managed to take Jurkowski down. Jurkowski scrambled back to his feet and the fighters clinched against the cage. Jurkowski attempted a takedown, but Kim defended and escaped an armbar attempt. Jurkowski stood and backed away. He floored Kim with a knee, a standing elbow and a left hook. Jurkowski followed with punches on the ground as the referee stopped the fight.

Winner: Lukasz Jurkowski by TKO (Knee and Punches) at 2:22 of round one. He improves to 15-9-0.


Forrest “The Meat Cleaver” Petz vs Ralph Johnson

Round 1:
Johnson, at 6’5″, towered over Petz and pawed out with jabs. He connected with a sloppy combination and the fighters traded hooks. Petz clinched and ate a series of short punches on the way in. Johnson landed a knee and backed away. The fighters traded wild haymakers and returned to the centre of the cage. A big right hand landed for Johnson, but Petz was unfazed and replied with a combination.

Johnson landed a one-two and a big knee, but Petz clinched and tried to take him down. Johnson stayed on his feet, but Petz was relentless and picked him up for a takedown. Johnson briefly grabbed the cage and escaped the clinch, then fired off more wild punches. A cracking right hook landed for Petz and he just missed with a looping right hand. Both fighters landed hooks in the final seconds. Very close round. 10-9 Johnson, just barely.

Round 2:
Petz landed a solid leg kick early in the second round and Johnson shook it off. The fighters circled and the action slowed until Petz threw another leg kick. Very little transpired as Johnson looked to set up a big power punch while Petz was content to jab. Petz rushed in with a combination, but Johnson backed away. A one-two landed for Petz soon after.

Petz returned to leg kicks and tried to set up a flurry, but Johnson remained on the defensive and stayed at a distance. Quick combinations landed for both and Petz threw a hard right hand. Johnson scored with a stiff jab and circled away as Petz rushed in with punches. A winging right hand just missed for Petz before the bell. 10-9 Petz.

Round 3:
The fighters looked to land big punches in the final round and Petz narrowly missed with a looping left hand. He mixed in kicks and continued to try for a knockout punch. Petz threw a left hook, but Johnson countered with a one-two and a jab. Petz shot in for a takedown and clinched against the cage. He could not get Johnson down and the fighters separated.

A right hook scored for Johnson and Petz, bleeding from the nose, answered with a left. Petz threw a leg kick and was met with a counter right hand. Again, Petz tried for a takedown and Johnson defended well. Petz landed a leg kick and Johnson kept him at bay with jabs. The fighters traded looping punches in the final 20 seconds, with both landing. Another close round. 10-9 Petz.

Winner: Forrest Petz by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 18-7-0.


Undercard Fights:

Matt Lee defeated Brett Oteri by TKO (Punches) at 1:46 of round two. He improves to 12-9-1 with the win.

Anthony “The Recipe” Lapsley defeated Frederic “The French Zohan” Belleton by Submission (Kneebar) at 0:59 of round one. He improves to 18-4-0, 2 NC with the win.

Stipe Miocic defeated Paul Barry by TKO (Punches) at 1:32 of round two. He improves to 2-0-0 with the win.


Capped off by a predictably one-sided bout between former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia and five-time World’s Strongest Man Mariusz “Dominator” Pudzianowski, Moosin’s debut event in Massachusetts was not without glitches. However, the incredible women’s rematch between Roxanne Modafferi and Tara LaRosa raised the bar for the other fighters competing on the card.
