Machida vs Rua Rematch Rumoured For MontrealAfter arguably being robbed of the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 104, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will get a second shot at capturing the title when he meets Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida for a second time, but the rematch is not expected to take place until May 1st in Montreal, Québec, Canada.

The pair’s first meeting was shrouded in controversy when Machida was awarded a Unanimous Decision victory after five rounds, sparking an uproar from fans and journalists who saw Rua as the clear winner.

Machida (16-0-0) was picked apart by the kicks of Rua and left the cage limping and with noticeable welts on both sides of his body. When he was announced as the winner, he appeared to be genuinely shocked and the audience responded with a chorus of boos.

Rua (18-4-0) put on one of the most impressive performances of his career in fighting a tactical battle that saw him get the better of most exchanges. He was left in a state of tremendous disappointment when the judges unanimously sided with Machida.

The pair were originally set to rematch at UFC 108 on January 2nd, but Machida suffered a hand injury that required surgery. As a result, Rua will have to wait considerably longer for his chance to avenge the controversial loss from UFC 104.

Looking to have finally moved passed a series of injuries that hindered him in past outings, Rua appeared to be in the best shape of his life against Machida and will no doubt be in top form for the second meeting.
