Angela Lee vs Mei Yamaguchi Planned For ONE Championship 41Undefeated rising star Angela “Unstoppable” Lee competes in her biggest fight to date on May 6th at ONE Championship 41: “Ascent To Power” in Kallang, Singapore. Lee faces Deep Jewels Atomweight Champion “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi for the inaugural ONE women’s atomweight title belt.

Singapore’s The New Paper Online reported on plans for the championship fight today. Lee has won all five of her fights inside the ONE cage and she is now one of the promotion’s top stars. Yamaguchi captured Deep Jewels gold in May and she brings a three-fight winning streak into her ONE debut.

Lee (5-0-0) has dominated a collection of worldwide talent in her five ONE Championship bouts to date. She kicked off her pro career at age 18 and submitted Aya Saeid Saber at ONE Championship 27, and fought three more times before the end of 2015. All four bouts ended in submission victories for Lee, including a highlight-reel Twister finish of Natalie “The Kilapino” Gonzales Hills. In Lee’s most recent fight, she forced Rebecca “The Professor” Heintzman to tap out to a second-round rear-naked choke at ONE Championship 38 in February. She takes a big step up in competition for next month’s title bout.

Yamaguchi (15-8-1) has battled many of the sport’s biggest female stars during her nine-year pro MMA career. She first captured the Valkyrie Featherweight Championship in early 2010 and most recently won two fights in one night at Deep Jewels 8 to become the Deep Jewels Atomweight Champion. Yamaguchi had planned to return to Pacific Xtreme Combat this month, but an injury in training forced her to withdraw from the card. Instead, Yamaguchi now receives a tremendous opportunity in her ONE Championship debut as she competes to become the promotion’s first female champion.

ONE Championship 41: “Ascent To Power” takes place on May 6th at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. Due to ONE Championship’s recent weight-cutting rule changes and revised weight classes, competitors in the atomweight division are permitted to weigh in between 47.7kg (105 pounds) and 52.2kg (115 pounds).

  1. Competitors in the atomweight division are permitted to weigh in between 47.7kg (105 pounds) and 52.2kg (115 pounds)? I thought that was the definition of a straw weight (105.1 to 115).
