Veteran flyweight contender Juliana “Julie” Werner steps back into the XFC cage for a featured matchup on March 19th at XFC International 14 in São Paulo, Brazil. Werner is set to battle once-beaten Argentinian standout Silvana “La Malvada” Gomez Juarez in one of four female fights on the card.

XFC officials announced the 125-pound bout earlier this week. Werner succumbed to a second-round kneebar from Julia Berezikova in her most recent fight at XFC International 9. Gomez Juarez also seeks redemption after suffering her first defeat in an XFCi flyweight title bout in September.

Werner (8-5-0), one of the most skilled strikers in the women’s flyweight division, began her MMA career in 2005 and won seven of her first ten bouts. Her lone defeats during that time all came against recent Invicta FC title challenger Vanessa Porto. In April 2014, Werner engaged in her most high-profile fight to date when she moved up to 135 pounds to face current UFC champion Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm in a Legacy FC title fight, but suffered a fifth-round stoppage loss. Werner is 1-1 inside the XFC cage since then, and she now looks to rebound from the setback against Berezikova.

Gomez Juarez (5-1-0) picked up first-round stoppage wins in each of her first two MMA bouts, and she made her debut for XFC International at the new faction’s inaugural event in February 2014. There, she handed prospect Bianca “Bibi” Daimoni the lone defeat of her career via third-round armbar, and Gomez Juarez earned another late-fight submission victory when she finished Mayerlin “La Monita” Rivas at XFCi 5. A decision win over Vanessa “Miss Simpatia” Melo earned Gomez Juarez a shot at XFCi title gold, but she was unable to answer the bell for round five against champion Poliana Botelho.

In addition to the bout between Werner and Gomez Juarez, three additional female fights are targeted for XFC International 14. In strawweight tournament action, Jady Larissa Menezes (3-1-0) faces Liana “Li” Ferreira Pirosin (3-1-0), and Caroline “Carol” Correia (2-1-0) meets Amanda “Sardinha” Torres (4-3-0). A flyweight bout pits Naiara “Guerreira” Pereira de Oliveira (3-0-0) against Priscila de Souza (12-6-0).

XFC International 14 takes place on March 19th at XFC International Center in São Paulo, Brazil.
