Emi Tomimatsu vs Saori Ishioka Announced For Deep Jewels 11Two of the top stars on the Deep Jewels roster are set to collide on March 6th at Deep Jewels 11 in Tokyo, Japan. Former interim strawweight champ Emi Tomimatsu faces off against Saori “Shooting Star” Ishioka in an atomweight contender’s bout that may determine a future title challenger.

Officials announced the matchup during today’s episode of Deep Jewels TV. Tomimatsu has won back-to-back fights since dropping a decision to Mina Kurobe in February. Ishioka was most recently defeated by then-champion Seo Hee Ham in a Deep Jewels atomweight title bout in November 2014.

Tomimatsu (10-10-0) was crowned as the Deep Jewels Interim Strawweight Champion in February 2014 when opponent Mizuki Inoue failed to make weight for their title fight, but after Inoue took the title in an August rematch, Tomimatsu opted to move down to the atomweight division this past year. She dropped a razor-thin decision to Mina Kurobe at Deep Jewels 7, but bounced back with two victories including a hard-fought three-round Split Decision win over highly-touted prospect Satomi “Sarami” Takano in the Deep Jewels 10 headliner in November.

Ishioka (13-8-0) has battled many of Japan’s top female fighters during her career that spans close to nine years, but she remains in search of a signature title-winning victory. After returning to MMA following a two-year hiatus to start a family, Ishioka showed no signs of ring rust in her submission win over Takano in a 2014 Fight of the Year candidate at Deep Jewels 4. The victory earned Ishioka a Deep Jewels title shot, but she succumbed to a second-round armbar from Ham at Deep Jewels 6 in what was Ham’s final Deep Jewels appearance before signing with the UFC.

Deep Jewels 11 takes place on March 6th at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo, Japan. The event will also feature bouts involving teammates Hana and Nori Date.
