A second atomweight matchup has been added to the upcoming Deep Jewels 10 card, which is set to take place on November 23rd in Tokyo, Japan. Former Jewels champ Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama returns to action following a year-long hiatus and battles once-beaten prospect Mina Kurobe.

Deep Jewels officials announced the fight today. Sugiyama has not fought since August 2014 when she was stopped by current Invicta FC Atomweight Champion Ayaka Hamasaki at Deep Jewels 5. Kurobe dropped a decision to reigning Deep Jewels Atomweight Champion “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi in May.

Sugiyama (10-4-0) has been one of Japan’s premier female atomweights since her third pro MMA fight in late 2010 when she upset Valkyrie champion Yasuko “Ikuko” Tamada in a non-title fight. She racked up eight straight wins and became the inaugural Jewels Featherweight Queen Champion in December 2011. A tough losing streak followed, however, and Sugiyama struggled over the next two years. She has bounced back since joining Deep Jewels and has won two of her three fights for the promotion, including a key victory over fellow Deep Jewels 10 fighter Satomi “Sarami” Takano.

Kurobe (5-1-0) is still early in her pro MMA career, but she has already faced and defeated some of the top names on the Deep Jewels roster. After winning her first three fights, Kurobe kept her unbeaten record intact by choking out the aforementioned Satomi Takano at Deep Jewels 6 in November. She followed that up by edging past former Deep Jewels interim 115-pound champion Emi Tomimatsu in February before suffering her first professional setback against now-champion Yamaguchi at Deep Jewels 8. She now looks to get right back into title contention with a big win in November.

Deep Jewels 10 takes place on November 23rd at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo, Japan. The event features a second atomweight bout between Emi Tomimatsu and Satomi Takano. Both the Sugiyama-Kurobe and Tomimatsu-Takano fights are scheduled for three 5:00 rounds and elbow strikes will be permitted.
