Bantamweight contender Jessica “Evil” Eye looks to rebound from a tough and disappointing defeat this past month when she returns to the cage on October 3rd at UFC 192: “Cormier vs Gustafsson” in Houston, Texas. Eye is set to battle TUF 18 winner Julianna “The Venezuelan Vixen” Peña.

ESPN first reported on the featured matchup this evening. Eye dropped a three-round decision to upcoming UFC title challenger Miesha “Cupcake” Tate on July 25th at UFC on FOX 16. Peña made a successful return from injury in April when she stopped Milana Dudieva at UFC Fight Night 63.

Eye (11-3-0, 1 ND) has encountered a rocky start to her UFC career since debuting for the promotion in October 2013. Her UFC 166 victory over former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman was overturned when Eye tested positive for marijuana metabolites, and she has dropped two of three fights since then against the division’s elite. Eye got off to an excellent start against Tate, and she outstruck the popular grappler throughout the first round, but Tate rallied back with two knockdowns and she controlled the later rounds en route to a clear-cut Unanimous Decision win.

Peña (6-2-0) is unbeaten inside the Octagon and became the first female winner of The Ultimate Fighter in late 2013, but she has also battled her fair share of adversity. Three serious knee injuries have kept Peña on the sidelines for prolonged stretches of time since the end of 2009, but she showed no signs of ring rust in her most recent victory. At UFC Fight Night 63, Peña demolished Dudieva and finished the Russian fighter with first-round ground and pound. A win over Eye in October would propel Peña from prospect status into UFC women’s bantamweight title contention.

UFC 192: “Cormier vs Gustafsson” takes place on October 3rd at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The event is headlined by a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Daniel “D.C.” Cormier and Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson.
