2014 Shoot Boxing 48kg Girls S-Cup Semi-Finals AnnouncedBoth semi-final matchups are now set for this year’s Shoot Boxing 48kg all-Japan Girls S-Cup tournament, which takes place on August 2nd at Yamano Hall in the Yoyogi district of Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. In a rematch, two-time JKS48 winner Mio Tsumura takes on J-Girls champion Momi.

Tsumura and Momi first met in February 2013 when Momi handed Tsumura the lone defeat of her career. In the second 48kg semi-final, MMA and shoot boxing veteran “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi faces highly-touted prospect Yukari Yamaguchi. The semi-final winners will then face off in the tournament final.

Tsumura (12-1-0 SB) has racked up five straight victories since her loss to Momi (20-9-6 SB/KB) in 2013. This past August, she became a two-time winner of the Shoot Boxing JKS48 high school girls’ tournament and she now takes a big step up in competition in order to take part in this year’s talent-rich 48kg Girls S-Cup. Momi brings a wealth of experience into the tournament and she is one of Japan’s most skilled female kickboxers. The reigning J-Girls Mini Flyweight Champion most recently fought to a Majority Draw with 15-year-old “Muay Thai Genius” Saya Ito earlier this month.

The Yamaguchi-Yamaguchi semi-final pits veteran Mei (8-5-0 SB), a two-time Girls S-Cup tournament finalist, against 16-year-old rising star Yukari (1-0-0 pro KB, 12-2-0 amateur SB/KB), the younger training partner of two-time Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup 53.5kg Champion Mizuki Inoue. Mei has yet to capture a major shoot boxing title, but her ability to score points with high-arc throws and standing submissions makes her a constant threat to any opponent. Yukari is arguably Japan’s top female prospect and she looks to follow in her teammate’s footsteps by becoming a Girls S-Cup champion.

Also confirmed for the August 2nd event are two more participants in the eight-woman worldwide Girls S-Cup tournament, as well as non-tournament bouts that will comprise the event’s undercard.

Joining the worldwide Girls S-Cup lineup are Thai striking sensation Thicha Rongrien Kila Korat (who formerly competed as Thicha Kor.Adison) and Taiwanese boxing gold medallist Kai-Ting “Kill Bee” Zhuang. Thicha enters her first Girls S-Cup tournament on a lengthy winning streak. Her most notable bout to date came in June 2012 when she dropped a five-round decision to Muay Thai star Little Tiger in a WMC & WPMF title fight. Zhuang brings a strong boxing pedigree into the tournament and follows the lead of teammate Wei-Ting Chen, who competed in last year’s 53.5kg Girls S-Cup.

The 2014 Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup takes place on August 2nd at Yamano Hall in the Yoyogi district of Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan.
