Original Cage Warriors women’s champ Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton returns home for her next fight on June 7th at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 69: “Super Saturday” in London, England. Sexton faces undefeated Polish prospect Joanna Jędrzejczyk in a featured flyweight bout on the card.
Cage Warriors officials announced the fight on Thursday. Sexton is 6-0 under the Cage Warriors banner and she recently fought twice in the UFC. Jędrzejczyk is coming off of an impressive win this month. CWFC 69 also features a bout between Kerry “Rocksteady” Hughes and Amanda Kelly.
Sexton (13-4-0) has competed against many of MMA’s best female fighters during her 12-year career and she is unquestionably one of the sport’s most accomplished female flyweights to date. In 2005, she became the inaugural Cage Warriors women’s champion at 132 pounds. She later went on to compete for BodogFight, ShoXC and Bellator before returning to Cage Warriors in late 2010.
Wins over “Slick” Sally Krumdiack, Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi and Aisling “Ais The Bash” Daly positioned Sexton for a shot at the newly-formed Cage Warriors women’s flyweight title in 2012, but her fight was scrapped when opponent Sheila “The German Tank” Gaff withdrew. However, Sexton’s string of impressive wins earned her a spot on the UFC roster and she moved up to bantamweight for bouts with upcoming title challenger Alexis “Ally-Gator” Davis and Jéssica “Bate Estaca” Andrade. Sexton now returns to Cage Warriors and the flyweight division to face one of Europe’s top prospects.
Jędrzejczyk (5-0-0) gives up a ten-year experience edge to Sexton, but the talented rising star has already made an impact upon the women’s flyweight division during her short career. After winning her first three fights, Jędrzejczyk took a step up in competition this past June and she scored a clear-cut Unanimous Decision victory over veteran Russian standout Julia Berezikova, whom Sexton faced in 2007. In her most recent fight, Jędrzejczyk posted a decision win over Spanish striker Karla Benitez on May 9th. She recently signed on with Invicta FC, but first makes her Cage Warriors debut next month.
Elsewhere on the CWFC 69 card, Hughes (1-1-0) and Kelly (1-1-0) meet in an intriguing bantamweight bout. Both women will be looking to rebound from defeats in recent Cage Warriors fights. Hughes dropped a Unanimous Decision to unbeaten Polish teen Agnieszka “Kuma” Niedźwiedź in December, while standout striker Kelly lost a close decision to Laura “Hot Head” Howarth in February.

So we can now look back at Rosi’s brief time in the UFC. Sexton went the distance with Alexis Davis, who’s fighting for the title in 6 weeks, and even took a round in that fight. And went on to show incredible heart against Andrade, going the distance under circumstances that almost anyone, man or woman, would have quit. Andrade has since become one of the hottest contenders in the division. Yet Rosi was released from the UFC. Shiela Gaff also fought and lost her to bouts in the UFC, but Gaff was twice stopped in the first Round. Rosi, thought undersized, went the distance with 2 of today’s best. This was truly unfair — I cannot understand the UFC’s reasoning behind this.
Sexton shouldn’t even be fighting with her neck. Rosi wasn’t impressive against Davis. Davis was just unimpressive. Then she was beaten to a pulp by Andrade. Rosi had no business at 135 in UFC. She should retire.
