Kobold Out, Sarah D'Alelio Faces Tonya Evinger At Invicta FC 7An injury has forced bantamweight veteran Kelly “Blood Red” Kobold out of her planned fight at Invicta Fighting Championships 7 on December 7th in Kansas City, Missouri. In Kobold’s place, Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio has stepped in to face off against Tonya “Triple Threat” Evinger on the card.

The change was first announced on Inside MMA tonight. D’Alelio is coming off of a close loss to Lauren Murphy at Invicta FC 6 in July. She had won three of her past four fights prior to the setback. Evinger recently competed on TUF 18 and brings a three-fight winning streak into her Invicta FC debut.

D’Alelio (7-4-0) has competed on all but one of the Invicta Fighting Championships cards to date. She debuted for the promotion at its inaugural event and went on to score back-to-back submission victories over Vanessa Mariscal and Vanessa Porto. After suffering a loss to submission specialist Shayna “The Queen of Spades” Baszler at Invicta FC 3, D’Alelio bounced back with a dominant win over current UFC standout Amanda “Lioness” Nunes. She now looks to get right back into Invicta FC title contention by defeating Evinger on just two weeks’ notice.

Evinger (11-6-0) has already faced many of the top female fighters in the world during her MMA career and she now aims to make a run towards an Invicta FC title shot. After dropping fights to current UFC stars Alexis “Ally-Gator” Davis and Sara McMann, Evinger got back on track with a pair of first-round stoppage victories. She dropped down to 125 pounds for her flyweight debut in November 2012 and defeated Carina “Barbie” Damm. In the TUF 18 elimination round, Evinger was submitted by Raquel “Rocky” Pennington, who is currently a semi-finalist on the show.

Invicta Fighting Championships 7 takes place on December 7th at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. The event is headlined by three championship fights.

  1. I think that this is the first Invicta card where I put all the bouts in the “should be good/intersting” catagory.
It is loaded from top to bottom

  2. Yes Chief Don – every single fight is interesting. And the PPV is supposed to again be only $14.95. No better bargain in all of MMA period.

And Bravo to Sarah D’Alelio for stepping in on short notice against Kobold who is sure to be extremely motivated, as she returns now to the red hot WMMA scene. I saw someone recently refer to D’Alelio as a “gatekeeper”… Nothing could be further from the truth — earlier this year she beat Amanda Nunes for heaven’s sake! To me, D’Alelio is one of the cornerstones of WMMA — talent, personality and heart. I believe her best days are ahead of her and she will ultimately achieve great heights in Invicta and then in the UFC.

  3. My apologies for above – D’Alelio is stepping in against Evinger, and it’s Kobold who’s out. Should be one hell of a scrap nonetheless. Can’t wait the for Dec 7th 🙂

  4. I have zero interest in D’Alelio vs. Tonya. Let’s be honest, while it could be a scrap, it is not a good fight. It is just there. Tonya should stay at 125 and is too small at 135. And D’Alelio is a gatekeeper who doesn’t have the youth or talent of Nunes. She would be filler for UFC. I wanted to see Kobold.

Funny, at least 10 fighters on this card should be in UFC in 2014. Shannon will really have to scrap for talent. And how on earth will she sell ppvs when all her fighters are gone?
