Rena Kubota To Face Du Peiling At Shoot Boxing 2013: Act 2Three-time Shoot Boxing Girls S-Cup Champion Rena Kubota makes her return to action on April 20th at Shoot Boxing 2013: Act.2 in Tokyo, Japan. Kubota is set to face Taiwanese boxing and Muay Thai champ Du Peiling in a 50-kilogram matchup. The bout was officially announced on Tuesday.

Kubota has not fought since she won the Girls S-Cup tournament for a third time this past August. In November, she had foot surgery to remove pins that had been inserted after she sustained a prior injury. Peiling, a decorated striker in her home country, makes her shoot boxing debut in the fight.

Kubota (20-5-1 SB/KB) is one of the most popular female fighters in Japan. She became the poster girl for Shoot Boxing after winning back-to-back Girls S-Cup titles in 2009 and 2010. Kubota did not take part in the 2011 tournament, which was won by rival Erika Kamimura, but returned to capture her third S-Cup title on August 25th by defeating three opponents in one night, including two-time finalist “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi in the championship fight. Kubota has since been sidelined following her foot surgery.

Peiling (0-0-0 SB) will have to adapt to the shoot boxing rules, which permit high-arc throws and standing submissions, but she brings a wealth of striking experience into the bout with Kubota. As a member of the Taiwanese national boxing team, Peiling won numerous gold medals in international competitions. She later transitioned to Muay Thai and captured an Asian Muay Thai title this past year. Peiling should pose a serious threat to Kubota on the feet and she is highly skilled at mixing up her strikes.
