Katja Kankaanpää Faces Juliana Carneiro Lima At Invicta FC 5Undefeated fighters are set to collide on April 5th when Finnish standout Katja “Killer Bunny” Kankaanpää battles Brazilian prospect Juliana “Ju Thai” Carneiro Lima at Invicta Fighting Championships 5 in Kansas City, Missouri. The featured 115-pound bout was announced by the promotion today.

Kankaanpää scored one of her biggest wins to date in December when she defeated NAAFS champion Aisling “Ais The Bash” Daly at Cage Warriors 51. Carneiro Lima fought twice in a three-week span in September, winning both bouts to remain unbeaten. She now makes her North American debut.

Kankaanpää (7-0-1) began her career with five straight wins and cracked the top ten at 115 pounds this past March when she upset final Valkyrie Featherweight Champion “V.V” Mei Yamaguchi in the main event of Botnia Punishment 11. Kankaanpää’s next fight came six months later against England’s Simona Soukupova at Botnia Punishment 12 and proved to be her most challenging to date. The fight ultimately ended in a Split Draw after three back-and-forth rounds. Kankaanpää closed out the year by controlling the action on the feet and on the ground against Daly en route to a well-earned Unanimous Decision win. She now competes outside of Europe for the first time.

Carneiro Lima (5-0-0) has become a staple of the Brasil Fight promotion in her home country, where she has fought four times and earned decision victories in each bout. Her most notable win to date came at Brasil Fight 5 in September 2011 when she handed fast-rising prospect Kinberly Tanaka Novaes the lone defeat of her career. Carneiro Lima posted her first stoppage victory at Super Fight Lafaiete on September 1st and returned to the cage 20 days later to defeat Aline Nery. She now takes a big step up in competition to face Kankaanpää in her Invicta FC debut and looks to make an immediate impact in the promotion’s strawweight division.

Invicta Fighting Championships 5 takes place on April 5th and is targeted for the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. The event is headlined by an Invicta FC Atomweight Championship bout between champion Jessica Penne and Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson. The inaugural Invicta FC Flyweight Championship is up for grabs when Barb “Little Warrior” Honchak battles Vanessa Porto.
