Lacey Schuckman vs Darla Harris Targeted For February 9An atomweight bout between veteran Lacey “The Ladie” Schuckman and once-beaten prospect Darla “Train Wreck” Harris has been added to Sparta Combat League: “Thunderdome” on February 9th in Denver, Colorado. The promotion officially revealed plans for the 105-pound matchup on Sunday.

Schuckman made two appearances for Invicta FC this past year, including in a short-notice bout against unbeaten Jewels champion Ayaka Hamasaki, but suffered defeats in a pair of competitive matchups. Harris also looks to get herself back on track after falling to Diana “Dynamite” Rael in October.

Schuckman (7-6-0) has long been seen as one of the top female competitors in the Colorado area. The 24-year-old has taken on all challengers in numerous weight classes and holds notable wins over Rael and Michelle “Bobcat” Blalock. The win over Blalock earned Schuckman the Ring of Fire Young Guns title at 125 pounds. Her 2012 campaign for Invicta FC began with a short-notice fight against Hamasaki in July. Schuckman put on a game performance, but succumbed to an armbar late in round three. She then engaged in a hotly-contested battle with Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson in October and dropped a razor-thin Split Decision in a bout that some felt Schuckman had won.

Harris (3-1-0) kicked off her pro career in a big way by upsetting Jennifer Moran in October 2011 and she followed that up with two more victories this past year. The 22-year-old Montana native made the move to Colorado to further her mixed martial arts training and she has made significant improvements to her overall game over the past year. In October, Harris faced one of her toughest tests to date in Rael, who was looking to rebound from a tough loss to Waterson in January. Rael’s experience proved to be too much for Harris and she fell victim to a rear-naked choke midway through round two. Harris can get right back into contention with a victory over the well-respected Schuckman next month.

The Schuckman-Harris matchup marks an interesting clash of styles. Both fighters are skilled on the ground, but each one has also worked diligently on the striking game. The winner could earn a spot in the top ten in the ever-changing atomweight division.

Sparta Combat League: “Thunderdome” takes place on February 9th at City Hall in Denver, Colorado.
