Gray Maynard vs Clay Guida Headlines UFC On FX 4 In JuneA lightweight bout between former two-time title challenger Gray “The Bully” Maynard and Clay “The Carpenter” Guida headlines UFC on FX 4 on June 22nd in Atlantic City, New Jersey. UFC officials announced the targeted matchup earlier this evening. Verbal agreements are currently in place.

Maynard will look to rebound from his first defeat in the June headliner. He was most recently knocked out by then-UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie “The Answer” Edgar in an October trilogy bout. Guida dropped a Unanimous Decision to current champion Benson “Smooth” Henderson in November.

Maynard (10-1-1, 1 NC) racked up eight straight wins inside the Octagon to set up a title rematch with Edgar at UFC 125 this past year. Despite battering Edgar throughout an opening round that many pundits scored 10-7 in the challenger’s favour, the champion rallied back through the final four rounds to earn a contentious Split Draw. The unsatisfying ending to the bout led to a trilogy fight in October. Maynard again had Edgar in all sorts of trouble early on, but Edgar recovered and eventually scored a fourth-round knockout to retain his title.

Guida (29-12-0) won four straight fights during his 2010-2011 campaign and appeared poised to make a run at UFC lightweight title contendership. A victory over former WEC champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis led Guida to a number one contender’s bout with current titleholder Henderson at UFC on FOX 1. In a thrilling battle, Henderson earned a Unanimous Decision win and dashed Guida’s UFC title hopes. The former Strikeforce champion will have a chance to get right back into the title hunt if he can get past Maynard in June.

Maynard and Guida will face off in the main event of the UFC on FX 4 card, which takes place on June 22nd at a venue to be determined in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Both wrestlers have shown improved striking in recent bouts, but Maynard should hold a decided strength and power advantage.
