Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante vs Lyle Beerbohm Set For July 30th StrikeforceA lightweight bout between former two-time HERO’s champion Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante and Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm has now been added to the upcoming Strikeforce: “Fedor vs Henderson” card on July 30th in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The promotion officially announced the fight today.

Cavalcante most recently fought to a No Decision with powerhouse wrestler Justin “The Silverback” Wilcox in June after Wilcox was accidentally poked in the eye early in the second round. Beerbohm, meanwhile, will be looking to rebound after suffering back-to-back losses; the first of his career.

Cavalcante (15-4-1, 1 NC, 1 ND) has struggled in recent years after injuries kept him out of action for much of 2008 to 2010. He fought just one time during that period, in a losing effort against top DREAM contender Tatsuya “Crusher” Kawajiri. Cavalcante has won just once in his last six fights and suffered a tough loss to Josh Thomson in his Strikeforce debut in October. He looked to have lost the first round against Wilcox before the inadvertent eye poke ended the fight in anti-climactic fashion.

Beerbohm (15-2-0) reigned unbeaten through his first 15 professional fights and picked up multiple victories under the Strikeforce banner along the way. His most notable wins to date came against UFC veterans Rafaello “Tractor” Oliveira and Duane “Bang” Ludwig, as well as a Split Decision over former Shooto ace Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro. Beerbohm has lost his last two fights, however, and lasted a mere 93 seconds against DREAM Lightweight Champion Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki in their April bout.

Both fighters are now in desperate need of a big win in the competitive lightweight division, and a loss for either would be a significant setback.

Strikeforce: “Fedor vs Henderson” takes place on July 30th at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The event is headlined by a heavyweight bout between former PRIDE champions Fedor Emelianenko and Dan “Hendo” Henderson, and also features a Strikeforce Women’s Welterweight Championship fight between Marloes “Rumina” Coenen and Miesha “Takedown” Tate.
