Barb Honchak's Invicta Fighting Championships 2 Pre-Fight BlogThere are so many new pieces of my life as an MMA fighter; I am not really sure where to begin this blog. I recently moved from St. Louis to the Quad Cities and, with that, changed my camps and management. In addition, this year, women finally have a legitimate home with the launch of Invicta FC.

I have been with Steve Berger from the beginning of my fight career and his gym will always feel like home. It is my strong held belief that Steve’s faith in me pushed me to succeed to my current status. Steve remains a very close friend and is still involved in my training as a coach and an advisor.

My new team, Miletich Fighting Systems at Core Fitness Bettendorf, has welcomed me from the start. I took a few months here to settle in and see how all these epic fighters would handle a woman crashing their gym. They welcomed me with open arms and so many people have worked with me since I started here. All of the coaches have been amazing. There is such a huge knowledge base at MFS and I feel like my learning curve is as steep as it was when I was nascent fighter.

With these changes, I felt I needed a little extra help. That is where Addison Sports Management came in. Coming with a strong recommendation from Sam Wilson, I signed Brett Atchley as my manager. He has been invaluable while I have made the aforementioned transitions. Brett has helped me stay organized and found me a slew of sponsorships while I prepare for my upcoming fight at Invicta FC 2.

There is no doubt in my mind that Invicta FC is the home that all of us ladies have been looking for. I got to know Janet Martin when I fought for her in an earlier promotion and Shannon Knapp’s credentials speak for themselves. I also attended Invicta FC 1 and knew many fighters on that card. Everything about Invicta FC is extremely professional and I am honored and grateful to be involved with them.

I fight for sport, but a person whom I have known and loved for many years very recently lost his fight with cancer. Our friendship defined my teenage years and I lose tears to your memory as I write this. I am dedicating this fight to Ryan Stolcis.

Barb Honchak faces Bethany Marshall at Invicta FC 2 on July 28th in Kansas City, Kansas.
