UFC On FOX 21: "Maia vs Condit" Live Play-By-Play & ResultsThe Ultimate Fighting Championship came to Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada tonight for UFC on FOX 21: “Maia vs Condit.” The event was headlined by a welterweight contender’s bout between Demian Maia and former interim champion “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit.

In tonight’s featherweight co-main event, Anthony “Showtime” Pettis battled Charles “do Bronx” Oliveira. Popular strawweight “12 Gauge” Paige VanZant took on “Rowdy” Bec Rawlings, and Joe “J-Lau” Lauzon met Jim Miller at lightweight. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the main card.

 

Demian Maia vs “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit

Round 1:
Maia wasted no time in taking the fight with Condit to the mat in round one. He struck from the top and passed from half-guard to back control. Maia locked on a tight rear-naked choke and Condit reluctantly tapped out just as he lost consciousness.

Winner: Demian Maia by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 1:52 of round one. He improves to 24-6-0.

 

Anthony “Showtime” Pettis vs Charles “do Bronx” Oliveira

Round 1:
Both men landed strikes in early clinches near the cage wall and Oliveira hopped on Pettis’s back. He dragged Pettis down to the mat and looked to set up a rear-naked choke, but Pettis turned into Oliveira’s guard. The fighters stood and Oliveira failed miserably with two takedown attempts. Pettis hurt him with liver kicks and Oliveira flopped to his back. Pettis unloaded with punches from the top and avoided an armbar. Oliveira initiated a scramble and he briefly held top position, but Pettis reversed again and punished him with hard punches and elbows. Oliveira upkicked and made it to the bell. 10-8 Pettis.

Round 2:
Pettis mixed things up with kicks and punching combinations in round two. Oliveira’s left eye swelled shut, but he fought through Pettis’s strikes and initiated a clinch. Oliveira hopped on Pettis’s back and pulled him down to the mat once again. He threatened with rear-naked chokes, but Pettis spun into his guard and stood up. Oliveira followed and ate an overhand right. He cracked Pettis with a standing uppercut and a knee. The round ended with Oliveira taking Pettis down against the cage. Close round. 10-9 Oliveira by a slim margin.

Round 3:
Oliveira took Pettis down right away in round three and he moved to side control. Pettis attempted an armbar from the bottom, but Oliveira escaped. A scramble ensued and both men briefly held top position. Oliveira got to his knees and drove forward for a takedown, but Pettis pulled guard with a tight guillotine choke and Oliveira was forced to submit.

Winner: Anthony Pettis by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 1:49 of round three. He improves to 19-5-0.

 

“12 Gauge” Paige VanZant vs “Rowdy” Bec Rawlings

Round 1:
VanZant threw a variety of kicks in the opening minute and Rawlings replied with a combination. VanZant clinched and threw knees to the body as Rawlings countered with uppercuts. A combination of knees and elbows landed for Rawlings and VanZant kicked from a distance. VanZant darted in and out with punches and landed a jumping kick to the body. The fighters traded quick punches and VanZant landed a hard one-two. She finished the round with three more kicks. 10-9 Rawlings.

Round 2:
VanZant continued to throw jumping kicks early in round two, in spite of her corner’s wishes. She landed a devastating jumping switch kick that sent Rawlings careening to the canvas. A barely-conscious Rawlings rolled to her side as VanZant unloaded with hammerfists and the fight was stopped.

Winner: Paige VanZant by KO (Jumping Switch Kick & Punches) at 0:17 of round two. She improves to 7-2-0.

 

Jim Miller vs Joe “J-Lau” Lauzon

Round 1:
Miller stunned Lauzon right away with a one-two and he followed with a body kick. Lauzon shot in for a takedown and rolled for a heel hook. Miller escaped back to his feet and the fighters traded elbows and knees in close. Lauzon pressed forward with punches and Miller countered with quick strikes over the top while backing up. He fell while throwing a spinning back elbow and Lauzon punished him with ground and pound. Miller looked to posture for an armbar as both men landed elbows. The fight returned to the feet and Miller flurried to the body. Lauzon stuffed a takedown, but Miller landed more punches. 10-9 Miller, barely.

Round 2:
Lauzon remained the aggressor in round two and he landed a hard combination that backed Miller up against the cage. Miller countered with punches and elbows in close. Lauzon landed a nice right hand to the face and Miller answered with body shots. He followed with a short elbow and continued to target the body. Miller fell while throwing a kick and Lauzon briefly mounted him. Miller scrambled and trapped him in rubber guard. Lauzon broke free and dropped elbows from the top in Miller’s half-guard. 10-9 Lauzon.

Round 3:
Miller opened round three with jabs and he hurt Lauzon with a barrage of hooks and uppercuts. Lauzon retreated and ate more power punches. He regained his footing and fired off a combination, but Miller snapped his head back with a lead right hand. Lauzon took Miller down against the cage and passed to mount. Miller quickly regained half-guard and rose to his feet soon after. He landed a knee after taking Lauzon’s back. The fighters battled for position in a clinch and Lauzon reversed a throw. He dragged Miller down and finished the round with an armbar attempt from mount. 10-9 Lauzon.

Winner: Jim Miller by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. He improves to 27-8-0, 1 NC.
