Valérie Létourneau Defeats Maryna Moroz At UFC Fight Night 74Strawweight rising star Valérie “Trouble” Létourneau kept her perfect UFC record intact with an impressive victory tonight at UFC Fight Night 74: “Holloway vs Oliveira” in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Létourneau handed prospect Maryna “The Iron Woman” Moroz her first defeat.

Competing in her home country for the third straight time, Létourneau showcased her striking skills by dropping Moroz in the opening round. The Ukrainian rallied back in round two, but Létourneau shut Moroz’s offence down in the final round and walked away with a Unanimous Decision victory.

Létourneau (8-3-0) and Moroz (6-1-0) traded right hooks and head kicks in the opening minute, and Létourneau dropped Moroz with a counter right hand. Moroz recovered on the mat, but Létourneau spent the remainder of the round landing punches and elbows from side control until Moroz countered with an inverted triangle choke attempt.

Moroz was more aggressive in round two and she repeatedly scored with kicks early on. Létourneau answered back with crisp flurries and she mixed things up with kick-punch combos, but Moroz wobbled her with a powerful right hook. She swarmed on Létourneau with more punches, but Létourneau stayed on her feet and fired back with a one-two before the bell.

As the close fight entered round three, Létourneau knocked Moroz off-balance with a right hand and she took Moroz down after catching a kick. Moroz spent most of the round trying in vain to secure a submission from her back. Létourneau stood up to escape from a triangle choke and Moroz closed out the round with body kicks and an uppercut.

Moroz’s late-round rally was not enough to steal back the fight and all three judges scored the bout for Létourneau, who has won back-to-back fights as a strawweight since moving down from 135 pounds. She has now earned victories in seven of her past eight fights overall.

Winner: Valérie Létourneau by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. She improves to 8-3-0.

  1. 115 make no sense. Unless we see everyone fight each other, it is hard to rank beyond Joanna and Claudia. And bigger fighters coming down from 135 and 125 will rule.
