Amanda Nunes Submits Sara McMann At UFC Fight Night 73Hard-hitting bantamweight contender Amanda “Lioness” Nunes earned her biggest victory to date in a featured matchup tonight at UFC Fight Night 73: “Teixeira vs St. Preux” in Nashville, Tennessee. Nunes overwhelmed Sara McMann on the feet and finished her with a first-round rear-naked choke.

Nunes showcased much-improved takedown defence in tonight’s brief bout and she successfully fought off McMann’s early takedown attempts. After dropping McMann with a combination, Nunes took the Olympic medallist’s back and locked on a tight rear-naked choke for the impressive tapout win.

Nunes (11-4-0) scored with a nice combination in the opening seconds and she thwarted McMann’s (8-3-0) attempts to take the fight to the mat. When Nunes missed with a spinning wheel kick, McMann countered by taking her back, but Nunes quickly stood and broke free from McMann’s grasp with right hands. She mixed things up with punches to the head and body, then dropped McMann to her knees with a flurry to the jaw. McMann weathered a storm of punches from Nunes on the mat, but Nunes secured a rear-naked choke and McMann was forced to submit.

Tonight’s victory was easily Nunes’s biggest to date, and the win now places the Brazilian on a short list of title contenders for UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey. With Rousey first set to face rival Miesha “Cupcake” Tate for a third time, Nunes may have to wait for her shot at championship gold, but she made a big statement to the rest of the division by destroying McMann in quick and dominant fashion.

Winner: Amanda Nunes by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 2:53 of round one. She improves to 11-4-0.
