Former two-division WIBA boxing champion “Lethal” Lindsay Garbatt kept her unblemished MMA record intact with a quick and emphatic win tonight at Pancrase 265 in Tokyo, Japan. The hard-hitting Canadian overwhelmed Shiori Hori with ground and pound en route to a first-round TKO victory.

The Garbatt-Hori fight was part of the second season of “Fight Xchange,” which follows the lives of Canadian fighters as they train and compete abroad in a foreign country. Garbatt easily dispatched of Hori in the brief bout and picked up an impressive win for Team Canada in the process.

Garbatt (2-0-0) opened the fight with stiff jabs that forced Hori (1-2-0) to shoot in for a takedown. Garbatt sprawled and she took Hori’s back in the process, then worked for a rear-naked choke. Hori rolled over to defend against the chokes, but she gave up mount in the process. That proved to be the Japanese fighter’s undoing, as Garbatt rained down punches until the fight was stopped at the 1:01 mark.

Garbatt’s quick victory was one of three first-round TKO triumphs for the Canadian squad tonight. In other bouts on the Pancrase 265 card, 17-year-old T.J. “The Truth” Laramie (1-0-0) stopped Koji Obata (11-14-4) with punches at the 2:33 mark of round one, and Lenny “The Show Stealer” Wheeler (8-3-0, 1 NC) finished Yuki “Brave Devil” Baba (11-6-0) with a head kick and punches in just 18 seconds.

“Fight Xchange” airs on Super Channel in Canada and season two of the series is expected to premiere in the coming year. The debut season in 2013 (filmed in 2012) followed the lives of six Canadian and Brazilian fighters as they trained together in preparation for fights; a cast which included Canadian prospect Kara Kirsh and current UFC title contender Claudia “Claudinha” Gadelha.
