Satoko Shinashi Submits Emi Yamamoto At Deep: "71 Impact"Deep Women’s Flyweight Champion “Princess” Satoko Shinashi earned another quick and easy submission win on Saturday night at Deep: “71 Impact” in Tokyo, Japan. Shinashi finished Emi Yamamoto with an armbar early in the first round of their featured 45-kilogram (99-pound) bout.

Since returning to MMA in October following a six-year retirement, Shinashi has set her sights on securing a future fight against Road FC star Ga Yeon “Deadly Beauty” Song, who defeated Yamamoto this past August. Shinashi has now racked up three straight first-round finishes in a four-month period.

Shinashi (32-2-2) countered Yamamoto’s (0-2-0) aggressive striking early on by clinching and throwing her to the mat with a harai goshi. She mounted Yamamoto soon after, but Yamamoto scrambled and escaped out the back. She stood up, but was immediately taken down by another harai goshi throw. Shinashi tried for a rear-naked choke from back control, then switched to an armbar. She pulled back on Yamamoto’s arm and the referee intervened for a technical submission stoppage at the 1:36 mark.

Shinashi’s goal leading into Saturday’s bout was to finish Yamamoto in quicker fashion than Song, who needed 2:23 to dispatch of Yamamoto with ground and pound at Road FC 17. Shinashi accomplished what she set out to do, but it remains to be seen whether a fight between her and Song will materialise in the future. Fans have again become critical of Shinashi’s decision to take fights against opponents with very limited experience and the veteran judoka will likely need to take on tougher challengers later this year in order to maintain fan interest.

Winner: Satoko Shinashi by Technical Submission (Armbar) at 1:36 of round one. She improves to 32-2-2.
