UFC Fight Night 51: “Bigfoot vs Arlovski 2” Play-By-Play & ResultsThe Ultimate Fighting Championship came to Nilson Nelson Gymnasium in Brasilia, Brazil tonight for UFC Fight Night 51: “Bigfoot vs Arlovski 2.” The event was headlined by a heavyweight rematch between Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski.

Also on the card tonight, Gleison Tibau took on Piotr “Pletwal” Hallmann in the lightweight co-feature. Leonardo Santos faced Efrain “Hecho en México” Escudero and Jéssica “Bate Estaca” Andrade battled Jungle Fight champ Larissa Moreira Pacheco. MMARising.com has play-by-play for the card.

 

Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski vs Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva

Round 1:
Arlovski opened the fight with a combination and both men landed right hooks. Arlovski used his superior speed to land first in the exchanges, but Silva responded with two body kicks. Arlovski dropped him with a right hand and followed with a series of hammerfists on the ground that left Silva unconscious.

Winner: Andrei Arlovski by KO (Punches) at 2:59 of round one. He improves to 23-10-0, 1 NC.

 

Gleison Tibau vs Piotr “Pletwal” Hallmann

Round 1:
Tibau swarmed on Hallmann with punches and a body kick early in the fight and he clinched against the cage. Hallmann recovered and he pressed forward with kicks to the lead leg and body. He followed with another body kick and a knee as the fighters clinched. Hallmann continued to score with knees and body kicks as the round progressed. He landed a quick combination shortly before the bell. 10-9 Hallmann.

Round 2:
Tibau connected with a spinning backfist and a pair of left hooks in round two. The fighters traded knees in the clinch until they were separated. Tibau landed a nice left hook and Hallmann replied with a jumping knee to the body. Tibau landed body kicks and Hallmann fired back with more knees. Tibau dropped levels for a takedown, but he was unable to get Hallmann down before the bell. Close round. 10-9 Tibau.

Round 3:
Tibau took Hallmann down early in the final round and the fighters battled in the clinch after Hallmann returned to his feet. He cut Tibau with a knee and followed with a left hook. In the clinch, Hallmann landed more knees and time was called to check on the cut near Tibau’s left eye. Action resumed and Tibau scored a very brief takedown. Hallmann stood and landed a series of knees. He fought off a takedown attempt by landing hammerfists and elbows to the side of Tibau’s head. 10-9 Hallmann.

Winner: Gleison Tibau by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. He improves to 30-10-0.

 

Leonardo Santos vs Efrain “Hecho en México” Escudero

Round 1:
Escudero fired off quick flurries in the opening round and he avoided most of Santos’s right hooks. Santos clinched and scored a takedown into side control. Escudero tried to escape to his feet, but Santos kept him pinned down in half-guard. He took Escudero’s back and landed short right hands while working for a rear-naked choke. He transitioned to an armbar attempt just before the bell, but lost the position. 10-9 Santos.

Round 2:
Santos jabbed and followed with right hands in the second round. Overhand rights were exchanged and Escudero landed a looping right hook. Santos clinched briefly, but Escudero broke free and dropped him with a right hand. He followed with more punches on the ground and allowed Santos to get back to his feet. Santos missed with a head kick and he ate another combination from Escudero, who wound up on top after a failed Santos takedown. The fight returned to the feet and Escudero walked Santos down with punches. 10-9 Escudero.

Round 3:
Escudero countered jabs and leg kicks from Santos with right hooks in the final round. Santos threw front kicks from a distance, then shot in and took Escudero down near the cage wall. Santos postured up with elbows in half-guard and passed to mount. Escudero turned to his side and Santos took his back in search of a rear-naked choke. Santos trapped Escudero in a body triangle and he continued to try for chokes until the end of the fight. 10-9 Santos.

Winner: Leonardo Santos by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 13-3-1.

 

Santiago “Gente Boa” Ponzinibbio vs Wendell “The Machine” de Oliveira Marques

Round 1:
Oliveira scored with a right hand and a series of kicks to the lead leg and body of Ponzinibbio early on. Ponzinibbio responded with a hard left hook and he swarmed on Oliveira with a barrage of punches. A badly rocked Oliveira fell to his knees and referee Mario Yamasaki jumped in to stop the brief fight.

Winner: Santiago Ponzinibbio by TKO (Punches) at 1:20 of round one. He improves to 19-2-0.

 

Iuri “Marajo” Alcantara vs Russell Doane

Round 1:
Alcantara opened the action with body kicks and knees, but Doane countered with a nice right hand and pulled half-guard with a guillotine choke. Alcantara scrambled free and he took Doane’s back. Alcantara worked for a rear-naked choke, but Doane defended and he turned into Alcantara’s guard. Doane struck from the top and looked for a guillotine choke as Alcantara stood up. Time was called after Doane was kneed in the groin. Action resumed and Alcantara landed more kicks to the upper body. He countered a takedown with a kimura attempt. Close round. 10-9 Alcantara.

Round 2:
Alcantara landed a huge overhand left and followed with a body kick in round two. Doane snuck in an uppercut and he dumped Alcantara to the mat. Alcantara used butterfly guard to explode back to his feet, but Doane took him down again. Alcantara attempted an omoplata and the fighters traded elbows on the ground. The fighters were stood up and Alcantara flurried to the head and body. He stunned Doane with a left hand, but Doane responded with a takedown just before the bell. Another close round. 10-9 Alcantara.

Round 3:
Doane clinched and worked for a takedown against the fence in the final round. He got Alcantara down and landed punches and elbows to the head and body. Doane secured a front headlock and threw knees to the body as Alcantara sat up. Alcantara briefly got back to his feet and was promptly taken down again. Doane landed elbows from the top, but Alcantara exploded up and put Doane on his back. He finished the round with short right hands from half-guard. 10-9 Doane.

Winner: Iuri Alcantara by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 31-5-0, 1 NC.

 

Jéssica “Bate Estaca” Andrade vs Larissa Moreira Pacheco

Round 1:
Both women landed punches right away and Pacheco scored with a knee as Andrade pressed forward. Andrade took her down into side control and postured up with punches. She looked for a guillotine choke as Pacheco sat up against the cage. Andrade returned to side control and she landed short elbow strikes. Andrade attempted a Brabo choke, but she could not get it. She stood over Pacheco and dropped punches, then returned to her guard. Pacheco tried to scramble back to her feet, but Andrade locked on a guillotine choke and rolled into mount. Pacheco could not escape and tapped out.

Winner: Jéssica Andrade by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 4:33 of round one. She improves to 12-3-0.

 

Undercard Fights:

– Godofredo “Pepey” Castro defeated Dashon “Fly Boy” Johnson by Submission (Triangle Armbar) at 4:29 of round one. He improves to 11-3-0 with the win.

– George “The Silencer” Sullivan defeated Igor Araujo by KO (Punches) at 2:31 of round two. He improves to 16-3-0, 1 NC with the win.

– Francisco “Massaranduba” Trinaldo defeated Leandro “Buscape” Silva by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 15-4-0 with the win.

– Sean “Black Magic” Spencer defeated Paulo Thiago by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 12-3-0 with the win.

– Rani Yahya defeated Johnny “Brutal” Bedford by Submission (Kimura) at 2:04 of round two. He improves to 20-8-0, 1 NC with the win.

 

  1. I picked Pacheco on Bovada straight up and…after thinking about it for a while and re-watching Andrade-Pennington, I decided to tak a prop bet for Andrade to finish inside 3 rounds at -650. That covered me pretty nicely. Andrade is a midget beast!!!!!!!

  4. Was I wrong… whoa! I still think that with proper strength conditioning and a bit more time, Pacheco will be a beast in this division. Her striking is quite clumsy, but she got so much power in her hands…!
