The Ultimate Fighting Championship came to the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine tonight for UFC Fight Night 47: “Bader vs St. Preux.” The event was headlined by a five-round light heavyweight showdown between 205-pound contenders Ryan “Darth” Bader and Ovince “OSP” St. Preux.
Also on the card tonight, Ross “The Real Deal” Pearson battled former top title contender Gray “The Bully” Maynard in a lightweight bout. Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch took on Brad Tavares in a featured middleweight fight. MMARising.com has play-by-play for the UFC Fight Night 47 main card.
Ryan “Darth” Bader vs Ovince “OSP” St. Preux
Round 1:
Bader took St. Preux down into side control early on and landed short elbows, but St. Preux worked back to his feet and threw a head kick that was partially blocked. Both fighters landed kicks and Bader countered a lunging left with a stiff jab. Two left hands connected for St. Preux and Bader dumped him to the mat again. He dropped down into side control shortly before time expired. 10-9 Bader.
Round 2:
St. Preux stuffed a takedown and fired off a wild combination in the second round. A vicious body kick scored for St. Preux, but Bader stayed on his feet. The fighters exchanged lunging punches that missed and St. Preux avoided another takedown attempt. He landed a three-punch combo and kicked to the body soon after. St. Preux landed a big left hand and reversed a takedown into top position. He rushed in with punches as Bader scrambled to his feet, but Bader took him down at the bell. 10-9 St. Preux.
Round 3:
Power punches were exchanged early in round two, but neither fighter connected cleanly. Bader scored an easy takedown and suplexed St. Preux to the mat seconds later. Bader landed short hammerfists and elbows on the ground and he slammed St. Preux down after St. Preux briefly escaped to his feet. Bader struck from the top and dragged St. Preux down each time he stood up. 10-9 Bader.
Round 4:
St. Preux opened round four with a body kick and a rushing two-punch combo. Little transpired in the ensuing 90 seconds until both men threw hard left hooks simultaneously. Bader took St. Preux down and briefly held mount position. St. Preux scrambled up and Bader suplexed him back down. He attempted a hammerlock and St. Preux rolled over to escape. Bader landed punches from top position until just before the end of the round. 10-9 Bader.
Round 5:
The final round began with body kicks from St. Preux, who came up short with follow-up punches. A nice left hook landed for St. Preux and he took Bader down. Bader looked for a kimura from the bottom and St. Preux escaped to side control. Bader got to his feet and muscled St. Preux to the canvas. He eyed a kimura of his own and the fight returned to the feet. St. Preux cut Bader with elbows on the way up and he got Bader down against the cage. Bader got up and kneed St. Preux’s thighs. 10-9 Bader.
Winner: Ryan Bader by Unanimous Decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47) after five rounds. He improves to 18-4-0.
Ross “The Real Deal” Pearson vs Gray “The Bully” Maynard
Round 1:
Maynard opened the action with a lead left hook and Pearson responded with a head kick attempt. He followed with another one as Maynard looked to close in with combinations. He briefly got Pearson down and landed hard punches to the body on the way up. Pearson connected with a lead left hook and Maynard grazed with an uppercut. Maynard scored with a left hook and he took Pearson down against the cage. Pearson stood and landed two knees in close. The round ended with an exchange of right hands. 10-9 Maynard.
Round 2:
Pearson avoided Maynard’s punches early in round two and the fighters clinched against the cage. More punches were exchanged and Pearson hurt Maynard with a right hook. He followed with four more punches that dropped Maynard against the cage and referee Kwith Peterson stopped the fight.
Winner: Ross Pearson by TKO (Punches) at 1:35 of round two. He improves to 16-7-0, 1 NC.
Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch vs Brad Tavares
Round 1:
Boetsch shot in for a takedown right away and Tavares easily stuffed it. He held Boetsch against the cage and landed a right hook and an elbow. Tavares cut Boetsch on the forehead with another hard elbow and he followed with overhand rights after Boetsch circled away. Boetsch briefly got Tavares down and he landed right hands on the way up, but Tavares reversed another takedown and took Boetsch’s back on the feet. Tavares finished the round strong with knees to the head and body. 10-9 Tavares.
Round 2:
Tavares backed Boetsch up against the cage again in round two and landed short right hands until Boetsch broke free. Boetsch landed a nice right hand, but Tavares answered right back with a combination. He clinched and landed short knees and punches against the fence. The fighters were separated and a bloodied Boetsch dropped Tavares with a left hook. Tavares stood and Boetsch floored him with a lunging right hand. Boetsch swarmed on a fallen Tavares with more punches and the bout was waved off.
Winner: Tim Boetsch by TKO (Punches) at 3:18 of round two. He improves to 18-7-0.
Alan “Brahma” Jouban vs Seth “The Polish Pistola” Baczynski
Round 1:
Baczynski jabbed and landed a lead left hook in the opening minute and Jouban responded with a one-two and a body kick. The fighters traded punches and Jouban landed two nice leg kicks. Jouban scored with a body kick, but Baczynski dropped him to the mat with a counter left hook and he followed with more punches as Jouban stumbled backwards. Jouban recovered, but Baczynski slammed him to the ground.
Jouban stood and more punches were exchanged on the feet. Jouban threw knees and Baczynski answered with punches as he looked for a takedown. Jouban just missed with a spinning back elbow and he hurt Baczynski with punches. Baczynski stayed up, but Jouban sent him crashing to the canvas with a final left hook.
Winner: Alan Jouban by KO (Punch) at 4:23 of round one. He improves to 10-2-0.
Shawn “The Savage” Jordan vs Jack “The Outlaw” May
Round 1:
The fighters exchanged punches one minute into the fight and Jordan landed a quick combination. May attempted a head kick and Jordan countered with a hook to the body. He punched his way into a clinch, but May broke free and three a body kick. May mixed things up with kick-punch combos and he cut Jordan on the nose and above the left eye. More strikes landed for May and Jordan responded by taking him down into half-guard. He landed short elbows before the bell. 10-9 Jordan.
Round 2:
The fighters were cautious in the second round until May scored with a lead left hook that opened a cut beside Jordan’s right eye. A big combination landed for May and he backed Jordan up against the cage. Jordan fired off wild hooks in return and he took May down into mount. May regained half-guard and Jordan landed short elbows. He looked for an arm-triangle choke and mounted May before the end of the round. 10-9 May, barely, despite Jordan’s late rally.
Round 3:
Jordan countered a knee by taking May down early in the final round. He landed punches from the top and May gave up his back. A fatigued May rolled to his side and Jordan continued to land left hands until the fight was stopped.
Winner: Shawn Jordan by TKO (Punches) at 2:03 of round three. He improves to 16-6-0.
Thiago Tavares vs Robbie “Problems” Peralta
Round 1:
Tavares clinched with Peralta and took him down in the opening minute. Peralta stood with Tavares on his back, but he was dragged down to the mat once again. Tavares flattened Peralta out and flurried with big punches. Peralta held on and eventually rolled to his back as Tavares continued to punish him with ground and pound. Tavares took Peralta’s back once again and used elbows and punches to set up a rear-naked choke. He locked on the choke and Peralta was forced to submit.
Winner: Thiago Tavares by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:27 of round one. He improves to 19-5-1.
Undercard Fights:
– Jussier “Formiga” da Silva defeated Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 17-3-0 with the win.
– Sara McMann defeated Lauren Murphy by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. She improves to 8-1-0 with the win.
– Tom “Kong” Watson defeated “Smilin'” Sam Alvey by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 17-7-0 with the win.
– Frankie Saenz defeated Nolan Ticman by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 9-2-0 with the win.
