UFC On FOX 12: "Lawler vs Brown" Live Play-By-Play & ResultsThe Ultimate Fighting Championship came to the SAP Center in San Jose, California tonight for UFC on FOX 12: “Lawler vs Brown.” The event featured a much-anticipated five-round welterweight showdown between hard-hitting title contenders “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler and Matt “The Immortal” Brown.

Also tonight, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson faced Antonio Rogerio “Minotouro” Nogueira in the light heavyweight co-feature. Clay “The Carpenter” Guida met Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez and Josh “The Punk” Thomson faced Bobby “King” Green. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the card.

 

“Ruthless” Robbie Lawler vs Matt “The Immortal” Brown

Round 1:
Lawler landed a hard combination right away and he he followed with a right hook and an uppercut. More hooks scored for Lawler and Brown struggled to land anything. He finally connected with a left hook that wobbled Lawler, but Lawler recovered and cracked him with a left of his own. Brown dragged Lawler face-first to the mat and he attempted a modified Brabo choke.

Lawler escaped to his feet and he countered knees from Brown with a left hook in the clinch. A bloodied Brown scored with elbows over the top, but Lawler hurt him with an elbow of his own and a knee. He landed a body kick and blocked two head kicks from Brown. The round ended with Lawler landing a counter uppercut in close. 10-9 Lawler.

Round 2:
Lawler flurried with punches and blocked a head kick early in round two. Brown threw more kicks and he landed one to the body. He took Lawler down and Lawler worked back to his feet against the cage. Lawler connected with a one-two and a follow-up left cross. A spinning back kick to the body landed for Brown and he pressed forward with punches. He landed a knee and two elbows, then followed with a body kick. Two body kicks scored for Lawler shortly before time expired. Close round. 10-9 Lawler, barely.

Round 3:
Brown shot in for a takedown right away in round three and Lawler cut him with a series of slashing elbows. He followed with a hard body kick that slowed Brown down. Right hooks scored for both fighters and time was called after Brown claimed that he was kicked in the groin. Replays indicated that the kick was legal. The fight continued and Lawler was aggressive with body kicks and punches. Brown landed one of his own and Lawler answered with a head kick. 10-9 Lawler.

Round 4:
Lawler caught a kick and dumped Brown to the mat in round four. From the top, Lawler landed short punches and he tried to pass to side control. Brown stood and Lawler landed two hard punches on the way up. He suplexed Brown back down to the ground, but Brown got to his feet again. Lawler stuffed a takedown and he landed two standing elbows. Brown kicked at Lawler’s legs and Lawler responded with quick one-twos. 10-9 Lawler.

Round 5:
The final round began with an exchange of power punches and both men landed. Brown followed with an elbow and Lawler kicked to the body. He closed in and landed left hands in a clinch against the cage. More big punches were exchanged and a bloodied Brown landed a knee to the body. Lawler missed with a head kick and Brown punched to the body.

Lawler hurt Brown with a body kick and a left hook. Brown recovered and answered back with an elbow. Lawler targeted the body with more kicks and he followed with an uppercut. Brown shot in for a desperation takedown and Lawler stuffed it. As Brown stood up, Lawler landed a kick that knocked him back down. Brown stood just as time expired. 10-9 Lawler.

Winner: Robbie Lawler by Unanimous Decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47) after five rounds. He improves to 24-10-0, 1 NC.

 

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson vs Antonio Rogerio “Minotouro” Nogueira

Round 1:
Johnson rocked Nogueira with a right hand early in the fight and he moved in for the finish as Nogueira backpedalled. More hard right hands scored for Johnson, including a series of vicious uppercuts, and a bloodied Nogueira fell unconscious to the mat.

Winner: Anthony Johnson by KO (Punches) at 0:44 of round one. He improves to 18-4-0.

 

Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez vs Clay “The Carpenter” Guida

Round 1:
Bermudez mixed things up with leg kicks and right hands in the opening round and he fought off a Guida takedown attempt. He continued to pick Guida apart on the feet with crisp punches and more chopping leg kicks. A big combination backed Guida up, but he took Bermudez’s back in a scramble. Bermudez escaped and he landed a knee that cut Guida as the fighters returned to their feet. Bermudez battered Guida with more big knees and threatened with a rear-naked choke on the ground. 10-8 Bermudez.

Round 2:
Both fighters connected with looping right hooks in the second round and Bermudez snapped Guida’s head back with jabs. Big right hands were exchanged and Bermudez took Guida down into mount. Guida gave up his back and Bermudez locked on a rear-naked choke that forced Guida to submit.

Winner: Dennis Bermudez by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 2:57 of round two. He improves to 14-3-0.

 

Bobby “King” Green vs Josh “The Punk” Thomson

Round 1:
The fighters exchanged punches and leg kicks in the opening 90 seconds and Thomson landed a nice lead left hook that got Green’s attention. He followed with a head kick and Green taunted in return. Time was called when Thomson was poked in the eye. The fight continued and Green checked Thomson’s leg kicks. Thomson scored with a combination and he tried to trip Green to the mat. Green kicked at Thomson’s lead leg late in the round. 10-9 Thomson.

Round 2:
Green opened the action with one-two combos in the second round, but Thomson backed him up with a lengthy flurry and a head kick. He landed right hands and avoided most of Green’s strikes. Thomson landed a nice overhand right and a four-punch combination soon after. He took Green down very briefly, but Green returned to his feet and broke away. 10-9 Thomson.

Round 3:
Green tried for a takedown in the final round and he landed two overhand rights in the clinch. The fighters separated and Green jumped in with a flying knee. Both men landed right hands and Thomson scored with a knee of his own. Green took him down and Thomson, now bleeding from beside the right eye, countered with hammerfists. He stood up and the fighters exchanged body kicks late in the round. Thomson just missed with a head kick and the fight ended with both men throwing heavy punches. 10-9 Green.

Winner: Bobby Green by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. He improves to 23-5-0.
