Amy “Lil’ Dynamite” Davis vs Nicdali “The Night Queen” Rivera-Calanoc

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Greg Franklin. Davis snapped Rivera-Calanoc’s head back with a stiff jab to open the fight, but Rivera-Calanoc clinched and tripped her to the mat. Davis framed up a triangle choke from the bottom and readjusted her grip. She landed hammerfists as well, but Rivera-Calanoc refused to tap. Rivera-Calanoc managed to free herself and got back to her feet.

Rivera-Calanoc kept Davis pinned against the fence and tried to take her down again. She got Davis down on her second try and worked to pass straight to mount. Davis defended with a guillotine choke attempt from the bottom and prevented Rivera-Calanoc from landing anything damaging. The fighters stood back up with 15 seconds to go and traded punches. 10-9 Davis.

Round 2:
Rivera-Calanoc countered a body kick with punches in round two. Davis landed more kicks, including one to the liver. Rivera-Calanoc remained aggressive and punched her way into a clinch. Davis stuffed a takedown attempt, but found herself stuck against the cage. Rivera-Calanoc broke away and landed punches as Davis threw a knee. The fighters clinched again and both appeared to be looking to take the other down.

Rivera-Calanoc took Davis down, but found herself in an inverted triangle choke. She escaped, but Davis took top position and landed punches and elbows that forced Rivera-Calanoc to scramble. Davis maintained a grip on Rivera-Calanoc’s arm from the top and looked for an armbar before transitioning to a fight-ending Kimura.

Winner: Amy Davis by Submission (Kimura) at 3:47 of round two. She improves to 3-2-0, 1 NC.

 

Sarah “KO Kid” Maloy vs Michele “Diablita” Gutierrez

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Chuck Wolfe. Maloy opened the fight with a Superman Punch, but Gutierrez kept her distance and circled away. Maloy landed a right hook and followed with another. Gutierrez stayed on the outside and managed to avoid most of Maloy’s strikes, but threw little in return. Maloy attempted a head kick and Gutierrez blocked it at the last second.

A leg kick scored for Maloy, but Gutierrez dropped her with a front kick to the body. Maloy stood and scored with single leg kicks and one to the upper body. A front kick from Maloy grazed Gutierrez’s chin. Fairly uneventful opening round. 10-9 Maloy for aggression.

Round 2:
Gutierrez remained tentative in the second round and Maloy continued to throw single punches and kicks. Gutierrez connected with a left hook counter, but neither fighter appeared willing to commit to any sustained offence. Gutierrez missed with a leg kick and Maloy threw a quick front kick to the body.

Simultaneous left hooks landed for both fighters and both fell to the mat. Gutierrez quickly got back to her feet and landed punches to a downed Maloy. The fight returned to the feet and Gutierrez tripped Maloy. She stood and Maloy followed. 10-9 Gutierrez, barely.

Round 3:
Maloy attempted a series of front kicks in the final round and Gutierrez stayed out of range. She threw a one-two and Maloy countered with a leg kick. Two hard punches scored for Gutierrez and Maloy missed with an overhand right. She landed a front kick, however, and Gutierrez backed up. Gutierrez ducked into a knee, but did not appeared to be hurt and connected with a left hook seconds later.

Maloy resumed kicking at Gutierrez’s upper body and pawed out with left hands. Gutierrez landed one of her better leg kicks of the fight, but she did not follow up and boos finally began to come in from the crowd. Punches were exchanged in the final seconds. 10-10.

Winner: Sarah Maloy by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. She improves to 3-2-0.

 

Randi Miller vs “Miss” Mollie Estes

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Michelle Drake Browning. Miller was very aggressive right away and punches her way into a clinch, but Estes countered well with knees to the face. Miller continued to try to get Estes down, but Estes landed more knees to the head and body and stayed on her feet. Miller refused to relinquish the clinch, but she was unable to get Estes down to the mat and ate more knees and punches for her efforts. 10-9 Estes.

Round 2:
Miller again closed in with punches in round two and Estes stayed on her feet with more punches and knees. She countered a takedown attempt with an armbar, but Miller escaped and punched from the top. Estes stood and avoided a rear-naked choke attempt. She took Miller’s back, but was unable to hold the position and the fighters stood up against the cage. Miller reversed the clinch and slammed Estes down, then unloaded with punches before the bell. 10-9 Miller.

Round 3:
Miller walked Estes down with right hands in the final round and clinched against the cage. She eventually managed to get Estes down and landed punches and elbows from the top. After another barrage of strikes, the fight was stopped.

Winner: Randi Miller by TKO (Punches) at 3:27 of round three. She improves to 1-0-0.

 

Ashley “Smashley” Cummins vs Sofia Bagherdai

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Michelle Drake Browning. Bagherdai missed with an early overhand right and Cummins shot in for a takedown. She slammed Bagherdai to the mat and punched to the body as Bagherdai worked for a guillotine choke from the bottom. Cummins escaped to Bagherdai’s full guard and pressed her up against the cage. She stood up and Bagherdai followed. Cummins looked for another takedown, but Bagherdai sprawled out and flurried with punches.

Bagherdai landed a combination and a knee to the face in a clinch. Cummins continued to drive for the takedown but couldn’t get it. Bagherdai landed a nice body kick and a right cross. Cummins backed her up to the cage and managed to sweep out Bagherdai’s leg. She landed a series of right hands and stood up to escape an armbar. Cummins kicked at Bagherdai’s legs until the bell. Very close round. 10-9 Cummins due to the late offence.

Round 2:
The fighters traded leg kicks and punches in round two and Cummins scored with a quick combination. She pressed Bagherdai up against the cage and eventually dragged her down to the mat. Cummins took top position in half-guard and passed to side control. She pinned down Bagherdai’s left arm and landed punches, but Bagherdai scrambled and kicked her off. Bagherdai stood and landed elbows until Cummins put her on her back again. 10-9 Cummins.

Round 3:
Cummins countered a leg kick with a right hand in round two and she kept Bagherdai on the defensive with one-twos. Bagherdai landed a leg kick and a spinning backfist that had little effect. Cummins began to mix in kicks of her own and both women landed left hooks at the same time. Cummins backed Bagherdai up with punches and dropped levels for a takedown. Bagherdai briefly reversed the clinch, but Cummins got her down anyway.

Bagherdai scrambled up and landed another leg kick. Cummins ate a right hook, but answered right back with a nice combination. She avoided a right cross and landed one of her own. Cummins continued to get off first with her strikes and she ducked under a spinning backfist attempt from Bagherdai, who came up just short with a Superman Punch seconds before the final bell. 10-9 Cummins.

Winner: Ashley Cummins by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) after three rounds. She improves to 3-0-0.

 

“Sassy” Cassie Rodish vs Meghan “The Babe” Wright

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Greg Franklin. Punches were exchanged right away and Rodish got a takedown against the cage. As Wright tried to fight back to her feet, Rodish secured a power guillotine choke. Wright could not get up or escape and tapped out.

Winner: Cassie Rodish by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 0:36 of round one. She improves to 2-3-0.

 

  1. Smith won all three rounds, IMO. Not only she landed more strikes, but she had cage control and scored with takedowns in two rounds.

    One of the best fights of the year, easily. I’ve become a fan (of Smith). She’s got a great personality.
