Carina Damm Wins, Luis Santos Draws At Amazon Fight 8Strikeforce and BodogFIGHT veteran Carina “Beauty But The Beast” Damm got back on the winning track on Friday evening with a quick submission of Maguilla “Gorilla” Deize at Amazon Fight 8 in Belém, Pará, Brazil. Damm used a keylock to defeat Deize at 2:41 of the opening round.

In the night’s main event, Damm’s husband, Luis “Sapo” Santos, fought to a Draw with old rival Carlos Alexandre “Índio” Pereira. The pair first faced off in late 2007, with Pereira taking a Unanimous Decision win, but nothing was solved after three rounds on Friday and the rematch was ruled even.

Damm (16-6-0) took the fight with Deize (0-1-0) to the mat early on to avoid her opponent’s boxing skills. From there, Damm’s experience showed as she worked from the top and eventually secured a fight-ending keylock at the 2:41 mark of round one. The victory was Damm’s first since February 27, 2010 after three straight losses in the United States. Damm has only lost once at home in Brazil.

Santos (49-6-1) and Pereira (23-9-1) engaged in a back-and-forth battle through three rounds that saw both fighters have their moments with strikes on the feet and on the ground. Neither fighter was able to secure a finish, however, and the bout was ruled a Draw after 15 minutes of action. Santos had entered the bout after a decision victory at Bellator 46 just last weekend, while Pereira previously earned a first-round TKO win at Shooto Brazil 22.
