Titan Fighting Championship held its first event on HDNet tonight with TFC 16: “Sylvia vs Wagner” from Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. The card concluded with a super heavyweight bout between former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia and Nebraska native Abe Wagner.

In televised bouts, Jason “The Kansas City Bandit” High took on Bellator veteran Rudy “Bad News” Bears in welterweight action, while former UFC competitors Rich “No Love” Clementi and Drew “The Massacre” McFedries were both in action. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the card.

 

Abe Wagner vs Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Jason Herzog. Hard punches were exchanged right away and Wagner rocked Sylvia with a right hook. He followed with more punches as Sylvia staggered backwards. A big three-punch combo dropped Sylvia to his knees and the fight was waved off. Sylvia got to his feet on rubbery legs and protested, but he was clearly hurt. Huge upset win for Wagner.

Winner: Abe Wagner by TKO (Punches) at 0:32 of round one. He improves to 9-3-0.

 

Jason “The Kansas City Bandit” High vs Rudy “Bad News” Bears

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Jason Herzog. The fighters cautiously circled early on and High tripped Bears to the mat. He locked on a tight guillotine choke as Bears tried to scramble to his feet and Bears briefly went to sleep. Impressive win for High.

Winner: Jason High by Technical Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 0:51 of round one. He improves to 13-3-0.

 

Aaron “Daddy Long Legs” Derrow vs Rich “No Love” Clementi

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Jason Herzog. After an exchange of strikes, both fighters looked for a takedown and Clementi wound up on top in Derrow’s guard. He passed to half-guard, but Derrow defended well and used butterfly guard to keep Clementi at bay. Clementi stood and rained down two glanging left hands. Derrow answered with a hammerfist from the bottom.

Clementi stayed on top and punched for nearly a minute, then stood up and beckoned Derrow to follow. Derrow jabbed and Clementi clinched. He backed Derrow up to the cage and landed knees. Derrow reversed and tripped Clementi against the cage. Derrow landed punches, but Clementi reversed and punched from the top at the bell. 10-9 Clementi.

Round 2:
Derrow landed solid punches in the second round, but Clementi clinched and took Derrow down. He landed two knees to the chest, but Derrow got back to his feet. Clementi tripped him again and Derrow attempted an armbar. Clementi escaped and stood up, then punched from the top. Clementi moved straight to mount, but Derrow regained half-guard.

Clementi elbowed from the top and moved to North-South position, then took Derrow’s back. He landed punches and tried to set up a rear-naked choke. Derrow spun and Clementi stood over him. He punched and returned to Derrow’s guard. Short punches and elbows landed for Clementi and he postured up, but Derrow attempted a heel hook. 10-9 Clementi.

Round 3:
Clementi landed a leg kick early in the final round and Derrow countered with a hook. He clinched, but Clementi broke free. Derrow just missed with a head kick and Clementi took him down. Clementi moved to mount and punched from the top. He kept him pinned down as Derrow attempted to roll to the side to escape. Derrow regained butterfly guard and held on until the fight was stood up.

Clementi jabbed and put together a nice punching combination. He clinched and punched with his free hand. Derrow attempted to pull guard with a flying triangle choke, but failed and Clementi punched from the top. Derrow secured a triangle choke soon after, however, and Clementi could not escape. Derrow maintained the choke and Clementi was soon rendered unconscious. Incredible comeback win for Derrow.

Winner: Aaron Derrow by Technical Submission (Triangle Choke) at 3:35 of round three. He improves to 10-2-0.

 

Drew “The Massacre” McFedries vs Gary “The Freight Train” Tapusoa

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Jason Herzog. The fighters circled early on and Tapusoa threw a head kick that missed. He followed with two big punches that also missed and McFedries answered with a jab. The pace remained slow as the fighters cautiously circled, but McFedries finally landed a right hook.

Single punches landed for McFedries and Tapusoa answered with a hard one-two. McFedries replied with a lunging right uppercut and Tapusoa missed with a looping hook. Tapusoa fell while throwing a head kick, but quickly stood and cracked McFedries with three counterpunches. McFedries scored with jabs and glancing uppercuts late in the close round. 10-9 Tapusoa.

Round 2:
McFedries pushed forward with punches in the second round and managed to land a handful of jabs. Tapusoa dropped McFedries with a powerful hook, but McFedries quickly got back to his feet and the fighters exchanged hard strikes in close. McFedries mixed in leg kicks and continued to score with punches.

Another stiff leg kick landed for McFedries, but the pace remained relatively slow as neither fighter was willing to commit. McFedries landed an outside leg kick and a one-two as Tapusoa circled away. McFedries connected with a lead right hook and followed with jabs. Tapusoa landed a right late in the round. 10-9 McFedries, despite the knockdown.

Round 3:
Leg kicks and jabs scored for McFedries in the final round as Tapusoa appeared to be fatigued. The fighters traded right hands and McFedries got the better of the exchange. More punches landed for McFedries as Tapusoa’s eye began to swell. McFedries’s mouth bled from a Tapusoa punch, but he cut Tapusoa above the left eye with a counterpunch. A leg kick and two jabs landed for McFedries.

Tapusoa swung wildly with punches, but could not connect and continued to eat jabs from McFedries. More right hands found the mark for McFedries as Tapusoa appeared to be frustrated. McFedries landed a lunging right hook and a left cross. He followed with a Superman Punch soon after and rocked Tapusoa with punches on the feet. Tapusoa turned away and the fight was stopped.

Winner: Drew McFedries by TKO (Punches) at 4:42 of round three. He improves to 9-6-0.

 

Drew Dober vs Bobby Cooper

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Jason Herzog. Dober threw leg kicks early on and Cooper countered with a takedown. Cooper punched to the body from Dober’s guard and Dober worked back to his feet. He threw a one-two combo and a kick, but missed the mark. Punches were exchanged and Dober clinched. The fighters separated and Dober kicked at Cooper’s leg.

Dober scored a takedown and Cooper got back to his feet immediately. He attempted a guillotine choke, but Dober escaped and wound up on top in Cooper’s half-guard. Dober landed an elbow and tried to pass to mount, but lost the position and Cooper got back to his feet. Cooper scored a takedown at the bell. 10-9 Dober.

Round 2:
The second round opened with more kicks from Dover, but Cooper fired back with big punches. More strikes were exchanged and Dover took Cooper down near the cage. Dober tried to posture up to land elbows, but Cooper did well to hold him in place. Cooper swept and took top position.

Cooper stood and punched as Dober followed and for to his feet. Dober backed Cooper up to the cage and took him down. Elbows scored for Dober from the top and he stood over Cooper briefly. Dober landed punches, but found himself trapped in an inverted triangle choke after trying to pass to side-control. The round came to an end. 10-9 Dober, barely.

Round 3:
The fighters clinched early in the final round and Dober landed a hard leg kick soon after. He picked Cooper up and slammed him down. Dober immediately worked for an arm-triangle choke from the top and tried to pass through Cooper’s guard. Cooper defended and reversed by pushing off of the cage. He punched from Dober’s guard.

Cooper prevented Dober from standing up, but Dober eventually managed to scramble back to his feet. He ate a trio of punches and a knee to the body for his efforts. Dober attempted a takedown and got it on the second try. He threw short elbows from the top and punches to the body. Cooper nearly swept, but Dober reversed back and the fighters stood before the bell. 10-9 Dober.

Winner: Drew Dober by Unanimous Decision after three rounds. He improves to 5-2-0.

 

Anthony “Shark Bait” Gutierrez vs Jacob Akin

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Jason Herzog. The fighters exchanged kicks early on and Akin scored a takedown, but Gutierrez reversed. He punched from the top and Akin looked for an armbar from the bottom. Akin transitioned into a kneebar and Gutierrez rolled to escape. Akin switched to a heel hook and Gutierrez punched free.

Akin attempted another armbar and Gutierrez slammed him down on his head. Akin moved to a triangle choke instead and Gutierrez punched out. He postured up and moved to knee-on-belly. Gutierrez rained down elbows until the fight was stopped.

Winner: Anthony Gutierrez by TKO (Elbows) at 3:28 of round one. He improves to 1-0-0.

 

Alonzo “Zo Diddy” Martinez vs Deryck “The Professor” Ripley

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Jason Herzog. After an exchange of strikes, Ripley looked to take the fight to the ground, but wound up on his back and Martinez stood over him. Martinez landed punches and elbows until Ripley managed to kick him off and stood up. Martinez landed a big right hook and Ripley fell again. Martinez punched from the top once more and remained in control as Ripley turtled. Martinez postured up and landed more strikes that cut Ripley on the forehead.

Ripley regained full guard and tried to roll to escape to his feet, but Martinez kept him in place and landed punches. Martinez stood and dove back into Ripley’s guard with a punch. He moved to side-control and continued to punish Ripley with strikes. Ripley spun back with an elbow, but Martinez stood and blasted him with a hammerfist. Ripley tried to transition into an armbar, but met with no success. He elbowed from his back until the bell. 10-8 Martinez.

Round 2:
Martinez dropped Ripley with a left hook very early in the second round. He dove into Ripley’s half-guard and peppered him with short strikes as Ripley recovered. Ripley attempted a takedown, but wound up on the bottom. Martinez again punched from Ripley’s guard. He stood and dropped Ripley with a right hand, then followed with more strikes on the ground. Martinez battered Ripley until Ripley rolled over to defend. Martinez secured a rear-naked choke and a dejected Ripley was forced to submit.

Winner: Alonzo Martinez by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 2:19 of round two. He improves to 30-14-1.
